Harbour Authority Of French Creek
As a Federally incorporated not for-profit corporation, the harbour must generate all its own revenue to pay for everything from electricity to wages, repairs, improvements and much more.
Established in 1991 after the government transferred operations to local governing bodies, the government still owns the facility but it is managed by the Harbour Authority of French Creek, which is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors currently consisting of 8 representatives from local user groups including representatives from the Commercial Home Port Fishing Sector, Parksville Qualicum Fish & Game Club, French Creek Boat Owners Association and the Lasqueti Transportation Committee. Board members are elected or appointed by their group or by the board.
The Board establishes rates and policies and works on long term & strategic planning, Board members have special experience and skills that benefit the harbour.
We are the largest and most complex marine facility in the area, spanning a site in excess of 21 hectares and containing over 2.5km of docks.
We’re at the center of a wide cross section of marine related activities.
We are a rafting harbour and as such, the majority of the harbour is not private slips or assigned moorage. Here boats tie in a linear dockage manner which is” nose to tail” alongside the dock, then as more boats arrive, they find a boat of similar size on the eligible docks, put out fenders and raft alongside.
